Raleigh Wedding DJ | Best Songs
4. “Jackson” – Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash – Hot Country Songs Chart Peak: 2 (May 6, 1967)
Meeting in 1955 at the Grand Ole Opry, Cash instantly fell for Carter. 12 years later, the two recorded “Jackson” and it was an instant hit. In the same year that the song won a best duet Grammy, Cash proposed to Carter on stage while preforming this song. They had been married 35 years when Carter passed away, in 2003. Cash died four months later.
3. “Solid” – Ashford & Simpson – Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart Peak: 1 for three weeks (Dec. 1, 1984)
According to billboard.com, “By the time they married in 1974, Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson already had an amazingly successful career as a songwriting duo, with credits such as Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrel’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and Ray Charles’ “Let’s Go Get Stoned.” In 1984, just a few years after penning “I’m Every Woman” for Chaka Khan, the couple kept one hit for themselves, the relationship-affirming “Solid,” which they remade in 2009 as “Solid (As Barack)” for President Obama. Ashford died from throat cancer in 2011, survived by his wife and two daughters.”
