As you’re planning your wedding, one of the many items you’ll need to cross off your to-do list is making a wedding registry. Your registry ensures that you and your fiancé will have all of the essentials to start your life together. While traditionally this might mean fine china and nice frames, you can also think a little non-traditionally and add other items that you may not have thought of. Here are a few useful things you and your fiancé should add to your registry.

Canvas Portrait

Personal items make for the best gifts. Nothing could be more personal than a canvas print made from a picture of you and your fiancé to hang in your home. If you’re nervous about what picture the person might choose or you have a specific one in mind, add a note to your registry and attach the picture of your choice to your wedding website. You can even register for multiple canvases in different sizes and hang them in both your living room and bedroom.

New Mattress

Whether you and your fiancé already live together or are looking for a new place after the wedding, having a place to sleep is important. Everyone has their own personal preferences when it comes to what they’re sleeping on. Make sure to choose a mattress you’ll both love and that can be shipped to you, taking some of the hassle off of the person buying it from your registry.

Money

Do not be afraid to explicitly ask for money on your registry, especially if you’re saving up for something such as a house. This can be as simple as adding a note on your wedding website with your registry that says financial gifts are appreciated as contributions toward your future home. Financial gifts can also be used toward your honeymoon. There are plenty of options for honeymoon registry sites that you can link to on your wedding website and your loved ones can add their gift.

Don’t Forget the Small Stuff

Sometimes for registries we think too big and forget about the little things we’ll need. There are cute, personal items that can be displayed or used for special occasions like engraved champagne flutes. Also consider adding matching sets of items like coffee mugs and wine glasses to your list. If you and your fiancé already have dinnerware, register for another set of the pattern you already have; this way if you host your first holiday together or have a dinner party you’ll have enough for everyone
