Weddings are not just events that celebrate union and love, they are also great affairs that commemorate the very individuals who have bravely decided to set aside personal differences in order to spend a lifetime with their beloved. With that in mind, it only makes sense for some grooms and brides to opt for a more personalized, nontraditional wedding that perfectly captures and represents them. If you are one of those brides, here are some of the nontraditional dresses you can wear on your big day for maximum impact.

A different color

Believe it or not, white wedding dresses haven’t always been the norm. Back in the day, brides would usually just go for the best dress in their closet or opt for dresses that could be worn on many occasions, regardless of color. It was only in 1840 when Queen Victoria debuted a white silk-spun gown at her wedding to Prince Albert that pristine white dresses became almost synonymous with nuptials. Her Majesty explained that the reason why she opted to wear a simple white dress on her special day is that she wanted to show her good sense and prudence. Just like the Queen, make a statement at your wedding by going for a dress in the color you want. Don’t be afraid to go for bold colors such as black, red, green or yellow. As long as it suits your personality, it will surely look good on you. Take inspiration from Brides’ list of the most colorful wedding dresses that are available in the market.

A different cut

As highlighted in our previous post, one of the best ways to ‘Make An Exquisite Look With Your Modest Wedding Dress’ is to select a dress that flatters your body shape and accentuates all your best features. Of course, finding the perfect cut is easier said than done. Chrizelle Diaz of PrettyMe explains that dresses for petites need to remove unwanted bulk and highlight the shape of the body. If you are blessed with a lot of curves, go for pieces that are cinched around the waist and brandish a V neckline to bring attention to your hourglass figure and emphasize your bosom. For tall and skinny brides out there, floor-length gowns will be your best friend. After all, they are perfectly made for gals who have model-like stature like yourself. Just remember to opt for ones that have a tad bit more detail so you can achieve the illusion of curves.

A different pattern

If wearing a wedding gown that’s made completely of a different color other than white is too extreme for you, you can turn to patterns to sprinkle a little more of you into your dress. Like some of the dresses featured in Andrea Fowler’s article on nontraditional dresses, you can add green embellishments to your white dress, or sprinkle some black accents around. If you are a fan of flowers and cheery summer days, you can opt for a wedding dress that showcases floral patterns or a bright mix of colors. For artists out there, you can print some of your works into your dress or have fun with some watercolor.

Weddings are incredibly important events in one’s life. And for sure, you’d want to remember yours as one of those days when you were able to be as true to yourself as possible. So don’t be afraid to go for dresses that may not seem bridal-esque for some. It’s your day and you deserve to do you.
